MUMBAI – November 19, 2015 – Ugam, a global leader in managed analytics, recently announced its Diwali season insights on pricing and assortment of smartphones on the top Indian ecommerce sites namely, Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal.
The analysis started a week before Diwali, on November 5, 2015 and ended on November 12, 2015. Ugam synthesized a list of likely bestselling smartphones, and deployed big data analytics for pricing and assortment insights. These insights support key decisions for retailers to compete more effectively.
Key findings from the study are as follows:
- Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal priced the likely best selling smartphones lower in the pre-Diwali weekend period compared to Diwali
- During, and up to, the Diwali period (November 9-12), Amazon had the largest assortment. However, after excluding the out of stock count, Flipkart had a greater assortment of smartphones*
- Amazon mostly offered the lowest average price for the likely best selling smartphones during, and up to, the Diwali period
- During two Diwali days (November 11, 12), Amazon offered 74% of the likely best selling smartphones at the lowest price
To conduct this analysis and infer meaningful insights, Ugam deployed its proprietary method to generate the list of likely best selling smartphones. By deploying its proprietary Assortment and Pricing Intelligence solution, Ugam aggregated detailed pricing and assortment information from Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal to determine who was selling these products and at what price.
